West Berkshire Council is seeking a Principal Lawyer: Litigation (Regulatory & Employment) to join our Legal and Democratic Service. Reporting to the Legal Services Manager, you will play a key role in providing high-quality legal advice and support on a wide range of litigation matters, with a focus on regulatory and employment law.
Responsibilities
* Leading and managing a team of lawyers to deliver excellent legal services
* Providing expert legal advice and guidance to Council services, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
* Handling a diverse caseload of regulatory and employment law matters, including tribunals and court proceedings
* Representing the Council at hearings, tribunals, and court appearances
* Contributing to the development and implementation of legal strategies and initiatives
Qualifications
* Qualified solicitor or barrister with significant post‑qualification experience in a similar role
* Expertise in regulatory and employment law, with a proven track record of handling complex cases
* Strong leadership and people‑management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team
* Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships
* Proactive and solution‑focused approach, with the ability to navigate challenging legal issues
