Caters Media Group is looking for a Birmingham-based journalist to uncover and develop tabloid-style real-life stories told through video.
This is a fast-paced, video-first role focused on finding compelling stories about real people, their lives, their challenges and their standout moments and bringing them to life visually for global audiences.
From dramatic personal experiences to uplifting human stories, you’ll be identifying content that makes people stop scrolling and watch.
What You’ll Be Doing
•Finding real-life stories about people that can be told through strong video content
•Identifying tabloid-style angles - surprising, emotional, unusual or highly shareable moments
•Sourcing and securing user-generated video content from individuals and eyewitnesses
•Monitoring social media and local networks to spot video-led stories early
•Contacting contributors to build relationships and secure usage rights for video
•Ensuring content is authentic, verified and suitable for distribution
•Working with video teams to shape stories into engaging, watchable formats
•Reacting quickly to breaking or trending stories with strong visual potential
•Managing multiple leads in a fast-moving environment
Who We’re Looking For
•A strong interest in real-life, people-focused stories told through video
•A natural instinct for what makes a story visually engaging and shareable
•Understanding of what works on social platforms (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)
•Ability to spot compelling footage, not just a good written story
•Excellent communication skills, confident speaking to people worldwide
•Good judgement when handling personal or sensitive stories
•Organised and able to manage multiple stories at once
•Self-motivated and comfortable working independently
• Educated to degree level in Journalism/Media
