An exciting flexible opportunity has arisen as NHS Lothian is looking to appoint a new Forensic Physician to expand its existing forensic medical examination and police custody healthcare team. We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed General Practitioner or Specialty Doctor with an MRCGP qualification and an interest in Forensic Medicine. This position is very flexible and can be tailored around current clinical commitments with variable sessions per month, mutually agreed. Your role will be to perform examinations and assessments of adults and children under the instruction of Police Scotland. This offers a diverse range of clinical presentations in an exciting and fluid environment.
We have privileged insight into the police and criminal justice system, with occasional opportunities to present findings in court. The position is available in Lothian, Borders, Fife, and Forth Valley, with cross-region coverage as required. Own transport and a valid driving license are essential.
This unique opportunity coincides with the reformation of Scottish police services and the evolving role of the forensic medical examiner, with aims to gain full Royal College status. Postgraduate examinations are available via the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine, offering good career development opportunities.
