We are currently supporting a major renewable energy developer and operator in the search for a highly skilled BESS Engineering Manager to join their growing international team.

Role Overview
This role sits within the engineering and project delivery team and is responsible for leading the engineering development of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across all project phases from early-stage development through construction, commissioning and operations support.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and engineering coordination across multidisciplinary teams, supporting the successful delivery of high-profile renewable energy projects in an international environment.
Key Responsibilities
Development & Technical Advisory
* Support development activities including site selection, feasibility assessments and constructability reviews
* Review and assess grid connection offers and technical requirements
* Provide technical input into planning, permitting and land acquisition processes
* Lead technical due diligence activities for the acquisition of development-stage or ready-to-build BESS projects
* Coordinate and manage external technical advisors and consultants
* Support equipment selection and technical evaluation activities
* Define Employer's Requirements and technical specifications for EPC, supply and O&M contracts
* Coordinate design development activities with Owner's Engineers, EPC contractors and engineering consultants
* Ensure technical solutions align with commercial, regulatory and operational requirements
* Support procurement and commercial teams during technical negotiations and contract development
* Identify, assess and mitigate technical risks throughout project execution
* Ensure integration of BESS assets into SCADA and Asset Management systems
* Support lender-side technical due diligence activities and provide technical input to financial stakeholders
* Support financial modelling activities through ownership of key technical assumptions including CAPEX and OPEX estimates
* Contribute to technical optimisation and lifecycle cost improvements
* Provide engineering input into commercial and strategic decision‑making processes
Commissioning & Operations Support
* Support commissioning, quality assurance and project handover activities
* Provide technical expertise to Asset Management teams regarding performance analysis, root cause investigations and repowering strategies
* Share lessons learned and engineering best practices across internal teams
Candidate Profile
Experience
* Minimum 5 years of experience working on grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects
* Previous experience as a Project Engineer, Engineering Manager or Technical Consultant within renewable energy or energy storage projects
* Proven involvement across project development, engineering, construction and operational phases
Education
* Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or a related technical discipline
* Strong technical understanding of BESS technologies and system architecture
* Knowledge of battery technologies, PCS systems, modular/integrated systems, LV systems and auxiliary systems
* Familiarity with BESS communication and control systems including BMS and EMS
* Understanding of BESS safety systems and relevant industry standards
* Familiarity with grid connection requirements and power system integration
* Awareness of route-to-market considerations for BESS assets
* Knowledge of O&M and asset lifecycle management principles is highly desirable
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
* Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and international teams
Languages
* Additional European languages would be advantageous
