Job Description
A Controls Engineer with experience in Siemens TIA Portal, S7, and Wonderware Control Systems is sought by a growing manufacturing company in the Cardiff area. AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY
The key focus of the role is to provide plant support on integrated solutions, supporting the Process Control and IT architecture model, delivering Automation Control & Instrumentation solutions to the site. You will integrate and maintain key industrial components used in the manufacturing process, such as sensors, valves, process control systems, Industrial PCs, and carry out problem solving at the PLC level to rectify problems and connect to high-level systems, reducing reliance on third-party support suppliers.
As the PLC technical lead, your primary function is to provide breakdown support to manufacturing operations for PLC control-related issues, develop maintenance and administration procedures, and oversee all aspects of the electrical process control systems infrastructure and instrumentation of all site PLC, HMI, SCADA, and Historian software systems, along with other programmable devices. You will also maintain and administer process control communication networks, including Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Modbus, and Profibus. Additionally, you will serve as a site competent person (C2) in electrical systems to guide and support the team.
Other duties include systems design & maintenance, code backups, fault finding, maintenance monitoring, upgrades & bug fixes, system procedure updates, configuration management, developing User Requirement Specifications for control and instrumentation system modifications, establishing and managing test rigs/environments, supporting engineering shutdowns, participating in weekly improvement meetings, and acting as a Competent Person for Process Control & Instrumentation Engineering.
The successful candidate will need the following skills and experience:
* Knowledge of SAP, MES, Wonderware
* Knowledge of PLCs, Instrumentation, and Drives, preferably Siemens systems
* Ability to modify and test PLC and control systems
* Knowledge of IT architectures for relevant plant industrial networks
* Experience with low voltage and extra low voltage systems
This role reports to the Maintenance Manager, with on-shift direction from the Engineering Team Leader.
