Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
* Full GMC/GDC Registration
* MB BS or recognised equivalent
* 4 years full-time postgraduate training (or part-time equivalent), at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty Or as fixed-term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty OR equivalent experience / competencies
* Evidence of C.P.D.
* Newborn life support course within the last three years (or commitment to achieve this within three months of taking up post)
* Level 2 safeguarding children training (or equivalent). Or commitment to achieve this within three months of taking up post
Desirable criteria
* Further relevant degree/diploma/teaching qualification
Experience

Essential criteria
* Evidence of working effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team
* At least 6 months full time neonatology on a level 3 unit at level one training
* commitment to team approach and multidisciplinary working
* Up to date with current practices in neonatal medicine
* Working as part of the management team
* Teaching and training of post/undergraduate medical staff
* Evidence of participation in, progressing and completing audit
* Knowledge of research techniques and governance
Desirable criteria
* Liaison with other agencies
* Previous experience of working in the NHS/experience of NHS working practices and systems or equivalent.
Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
* Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
* Ability to take independent clinical decisions when necessary and to seek advice from senior doctors as appropriate
* Ability to manage own time and work load
* Experience of the assessment of emergencies
* Able to work as a member of a team or on own
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to communicate sensitively with patients, relatives and staff
* Understanding of information systems and technology
* Clinical Skills consistent with second on call experience in neonatal care

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
