A Clinical Research Fellowship is available for UK and International applicants with the Head and Neck team. This Fellowship allows a senior medical trainee to work within the Head, Neck, and Salivary/Thyroid disease-related group at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The fellowship aims to increase research output within the Department of Medical Oncology through innovative investigator-led studies, and to train the next generation of cancer research leaders.
The salary will be on the Specialist Registrar scale. There is no on-call commitment. Successful applicants will divide their time between research and moderate clinical duties, including clinical research and audit activities, such as protocol-writing. The post is based within the Research and Innovation Division under the supervision of Dr Metcalf. The fellow will support multidisciplinary teams, manage clinical trial portfolios, and facilitate clinical decision-making, trial openings, and patient recruitment.
The fellow will attend clinics (up to two research clinics and one NHS clinic weekly), participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical research meetings, and trial planning sessions. They will review clinical data, write abstracts and manuscripts, plan new studies, and attend educational meetings.

The fellowship requires delivering at least four of the following: completing a clinical audit, presenting at a national/international meeting, publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts, assisting with grant applications, increasing the department’s international profile, representing The Christie internationally, and maintaining CPD.
The role involves attending one salivary clinic and one research clinic weekly, both scheduled for Fridays, with other days dedicated to research activities. Candidates should have a medical degree, experience in head and neck/salivary cancer, GMC registration, and IELTS proficiency if applicable. The fellowship is a full-time, two-year position focused on clinical research and training.
