Construction Professional Support Lawyer (PSL)
Location: Bristol
PQE: 6+
Contract: Permanent
A prominent UK law firm is seeking a Professional Support Lawyer (PSL) to join its highly ranked Construction & Engineering team in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction lawyer to transition into a knowledge-focused role, supporting the technical development of lawyers and contributing to the wider success of a nationally recognised practice.
With the firm's Bristol office opening in the last year, this is a particularly exciting time to join. The role offers the chance to be part of a growing, strategically important base, with clear potential for long-term career development as the team expands.
The Role
This is a generalist PSL role, with a focus on real estate development and the built environment. Working closely with the existing PSL team, lawyers, and knowledge specialists, the successful candidate will:
* Develop, maintain, and enhance practice area precedents and resources, particularly those related to non-contentious construction matters.
* Provide clear, practical legal guidance and current awareness to the team.
* Lead and contribute to internal and client-facing training sessions, webinars, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
* Produce thought leadership content including newsletters, blogs, podcasts, client alerts, and legal updates.
* Monitor and analyse legal and market developments in construction law and share relevant insights with the team and clients.
* Collaborate with the firm's Knowledge and Risk Management teams to ensure best practice across technical delivery and compliance.
* Oversee the use and management of digital legal resources and contract tools.
For those wishing to retain some client-facing responsibilities, the firm is happy to consider a hybrid role, with a 50/50 split between PSL duties and fee-earning in non-contentious construction work.
The Team
This Tier 1 and Band 1-ranked Construction & Engineering team is one of the largest and most respected in the UK, advising on some of the country's most complex infrastructure, energy, defence, and real estate development projects. Clients include developers, funders, contractors, and consultants across both public and private sectors.
What You'll Need
* At least 7 years' post-qualification experience, with strong exposure to non-contentious construction matters-ideally in the built environment or real estate development sectors.
* In-depth knowledge of standard forms of construction contracts, especially JCT and NEC.
* Excellent technical skills in contract and tort law.
* Strong research, drafting, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal information in a clear and accessible way.
* A collaborative and proactive approach, with confidence managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
* An interest in learning, teaching, and improving legal practice across a team.
* Must be a qualified solicitor or equivalent and registered with the SRA.
Why Join
This is an opportunity to join a firm known for its strong culture, commitment to personal development, and emphasis on collaboration over hierarchy. The recent launch of its Bristol office signals a long-term investment in the region, opening up exciting possibilities for progression as the office grows.
Whether you're seeking a full-time PSL role or a blend of knowledge and practice work, this position offers a chance to play a central role in the team's ongoing success, contribute to high-profile projects, and support the next generation of legal talent.
