We require an ambitious and enthusiastic teacher to join a high performing team within our very successful P.E. department. Our P.E. GCSE results are above the national average and we have high numbers of students progressing to study P.E. at A level.

The successful candidate must be an outstanding practitioner, passionate about Physical Education. We are an outstanding Catholic College and the faith life of our community is integral to all that we are and all that we aspire to be.

Responsibilities of Teacher of P.E.:

Teaching & Learning

1. Promoting and seeking opportunities for innovative approaches to teach P.E. both in the post holder’s own teaching and the way he/she encourages others
2. Develop practice within the department to engrain deeper understanding of concepts
3. Assist the Head of Department in sharing best practice
4. Seek opportunities to collaborate with other P.E. departments

Curriculum changes

5. Assist the Head of Department in the delivery of the GCSE Specification, and any other curriculum changes that occur while the post holder remains in post
6. Keeping up to date with specifications and assessment materials from examination boards and developing SoW and teaching strategies as assigned by the Head of Department
7. Developing the post holders teaching and that of others teaching with the team.

Other Duties

8. To fulfil all other duties, pastoral and academic, as required and directed by the Head of Department and Senior Leadership Team
9. Within these specific requirements listed above, all teachers are expected to foster a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere within the subject for both students and staff
10. To be responsible for Health and Safety in the classroom and surrounding area
11. To act as a role model in promoting the ethos of the College
12. To attend after College events as required by the Headteacher and members of the Senior Leadership Team

Skills / Qualifications and Training:

13. Qualification in the relevant subject
14. Qualified Teacher Status
15. Courses of further study relevant to the post
16. A record of sustained, outstanding classroom practice
17. Evidence of active involvement in professional development

Knowledge and Understanding:

18. A commitment to ongoing research into teaching and learning strategies
19. Excellent awareness of current educational developments
20. Excellent understanding of current issues related to the subject
21. Ability to plan lessons effectively
22. Evidence of high level classroom skills
23. An understanding of and commitment to the ethos of the College.

The successful candidate will be subject to enhanced clearance through the Disclosure and Barring Service and employment will be subject to references.
