Specialist Occupational Therapist - Neurological Rehabilitation

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 occupational therapist with a keen interest in neurology to join our friendly, dynamic and committed Community Neurorehabilitation Service, Rayners Hedge Aylesbury.

The role is perfect for an existing band 6 or an experienced band 5, with relevant experience, who wish to further develop skills in the specialty of neuro rehabilitation.

You need to be a motivated, confident, autonomous practitioner with high level communication skills, a flexible problem-solving approach, good clinical reasoning skills, and be efficient in your time and people management.

You will support individuals with a range of neurological conditions, work holistically towards patient led goals in maximising their potential.

You will have the opportunity to work as part of a highly experienced multi disciplinary team renowned for their innovative and holistic approach. A culture of learning and development is central to the team, with ample opportunity for you to further enhance skills your skills in this area of neurorehabilitation.


Main duties of the job

* To provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention for adults who have been referred to the Community Neurological Rehabilitation Service (CNRS).
* To assess the functional, rehabilitation and vocational needs of patients referred to CNRS. This includes working in a variety of locations within the community.
* To manage a caseload of patients with complex needs in the field of neurological rehabilitation.
* To work as an autonomous practitioner (accessing clinical supervision as required), evidencing high levels of problem solving and clinical reasoning.

Person Specification


Education, Qualifications & Training

* Degree or diploma in occupational therapy
* Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT)
* Member of the Heath Care Professions Council
* Attendance at postgraduate courses in relevant fields
* Practice educator training


Experience

* Previous experience working in the NHS
* Recent experience of neuro rehabilitation with a range of neurological conditions
* Experience of leading family meeting/ case conferences
* Knowledge of clinical governance including quality and risk management
* Experience working in a community and/or vocational rehabilitation setting
* Experience running groups
* Experience managing and prioritising own workload
* Experience supervising other staff members and occupational therapy students
* Experience providing training/ teaching
* Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team and contribute to decision making
* Participation in research and audit


Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

* Competence with IT skills including use of Microsoft systems and electronic patient record systems
* Able to work as an autonomous practitioner, withstand the pressures of work and meet the physical and emotional requirements of the role
* Excellent organisational and time management skills
* Highly motivated and have the ability to motivate others
* Awareness of limitations of own professional abilities
* Able to convey and idea and motivate others
* Excellent communication skills and to treat patients and colleagues with respect at all times
* Ability to plan, manage and organise tasks within available resources
* To be sufficiently emotionally and physically robust to support patients and their carers/ families in emotional and stressful situations with support from members of the multidisciplinary team and clinical supervisor


Special Circumstances

* An ability to travel between community sites including to carry out home visits
