Overview
Lead Clinician role at Cheswold Park Hospital. Band 7, full-time permanent position.
Salary: £46,148 to £52,809 per year. Location: Airedale Health Centre, The Square, Castleford, West Yorkshire; travel to Wakefield and surrounding towns may be required. UK driving license and access to a car are essential for home/clinic visits.
Work pattern: Full-time, with flexible working where needed. The service operates Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm, with occasional extended hours to support service effectiveness.
Responsibilities
* Provide highly specialist skills and expertise in mental health for Children and Young People, including emergency assessments and intensive interventions.
* Work autonomously and within the multidisciplinary team (MDT); provide consultation and teaching to other agencies/professionals.
* Provide supervision and teaching to CAMHS disciplines and deputise for the team leader as agreed.
* Case-hold responsibilities and contribute to development/implementation of evidence-based treatments.
* Promote safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people.
* Collaborate with the team manager and other lead clinicians in service development and new approaches to care.
Location and Travel
The team is based between Airedale Health Centre, Castleford, and Drury Lane Health Centre, Wakefield. The post covers Wakefield and the five towns; occasional travel for home/clinic visits is expected.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential: Relevant professional qualification (e.g., nursing or allied health), post-qualification training in identified portfolio (e.g., LD/LAC, eating disorders), and a teaching/assessing qualification where applicable.
* Essential: Substantial post-qualification experience, including work with Children/Young People in mental health or complex care settings; extensive experience delivering training to others; knowledge of safeguarding, relevant legislation, and risk management.
* Desirable: Postgraduate qualification in mental health (e.g., CBT, Family Therapy, Counselling); Masters level; formal management/supervisory qualification.
Skills and Personal Attributes
* Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to manage a caseload autonomously and work within a team.
* Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and clinical governance skills; good IT and record-keeping skills.
* Commitment to multi-agency working, equality and diversity, and reducing discrimination; able to work under pressure and in crisis situations.
* Current driving licence and car access for day-to-day duties; demonstrates integrity, openness, and respect.
Other Requirements
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check clearance as part of safeguarding requirements.
* UK professional registration is required. Applicants should be eligible to work in the UK (sponsorship where applicable per UK Visas requirements).
