Responsibilities
* Act as a clinical lead for the SHW chapter, providing leadership and strategic direction to the OH teams as part of the SHW Management team.
* Contribute to and ensure implementation of our global Health & Wellbeing strategies to meet current and future business needs.
* In your capacity as Occupational Physician, you will have clinical responsibility for:
o OH business process improvement
o Complex medical case management including fitness for task
o Health Surveillance escalations
o Preparation of medical information packs for forwarding to the Pension Scheme
o Medical Adviser in cases of applications for ill health early retirement
* Advise on assessments to management and supervision, liaising with an individual's own doctors and specialists where appropriate.
* In addition to face‑to‑face and telephone consultations, you will:
o Visit workplaces to assess the nature and type of work being undertaken and give accurate advice on fitness for work.
o Take part in case conferences with managers and People team to agree the most appropriate courses of action.
o Provide high‑level support to a team of OH Advisors and OH physicians working for an external commercial partner, including advice on management of specific complex cases.
o Provide support to safety and wellbeing colleagues on clinical topics.
o Help in complaint case resolution.

Key Skills
* Excellent communication skills – both spoken and written.
* Commercially and strategically astute; used to working in a business environment.
* Ability to negotiate and influence at a senior level within the organisation.
* Working knowledge of key HR practices such as absence management and capability.
* Strong ability to organise oneself and prioritise workload.
* Good level of IT competence in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.
* Ability to keep accurate and comprehensive medical records, observe confidentiality and comply with GMC principles of Good Medical Practice.
Experience & Qualifications
* Good working knowledge of UK equality and health and safety laws.
* Good working knowledge of UK employment law.
* Experience within a manufacturing environment.
* Experience within a unionised environment.
* Experience of data management and interpretation.
* Medical Degree qualified.
* Diploma in Occupational Medicine (Dip Occ Med) or AFOM.
* MFOM/FFOM.
* Full registration with the General Medical Council and current with Revalidation requirements.
* A full driving licence.
