The starting salary for this role is £70,975 per annum, working 36 hours per week.
This is a secondment opportunity until 1st May 2027.

We have an exciting secondment opportunity for the role of Public Health Principal. You will play a central role in delivering our Public Health ambitions including the Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

About the Team

Our team has well developed relationships across the Council and with partners. The team sits in the Adults, Wellbeing and Health Partnership directorate, leading Health and Wellbeing initiatives across Surrey.About the Role In this role you will:
11. be responsible for providing highly specialist public health knowledge and skills to lead a portfolio of public health programmes in partnership with a range of statutory and voluntary organisations to achieve improvements in population health and a reduction in health inequalities.
12. provide strategy direction and policy advice for CVD prevention and other specialist areas, and be responsible for the development, management and improvement of commissioned services.
13. manage and lead the CVD Prevention team.
14. be a key member of the public health leadership team, deputising for Consultants in Public Health when required.

Shortlisting Criteria
To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:
15. Skilled in the range of Public Health competencies with a Public Health-related Masters qualification or equivalent experience
16. Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners/professionals
17. Proven ability to manage budgets and resources
18. Experience in staff management and commissioning
19. Can evidence continuous professional development in public health

Local Government Reorganisation
Surrey County Council is preparing for Local Government Reorganisation which will allow us to implement the Government led policy of devolution, which is all about giving more powers to local areas.
Currently, Surrey has a two-tier council system, with 11 district and borough councils and a county council, all responsible for different services. All these councils will be reorganised into a smaller number of new unitary councils which will come into effect in April 2027. At this point, this role will be transferred, with all existing terms and conditions intact into one of the new unitary councils.
