Position Outline
We seek a highly motivated, creative, and versatile Design Engineer responsible for designing fixtures and special purpose machine equipment for production areas, including sites in St Asaph and Qioptiq Space Technology. This role offers an opportunity to develop engineering design skills within a stimulating environment, working with a dedicated team of Design Engineers.
Key Responsibilities
* Proficient use of mechanical design software (e.g., Creo, PDMLink).
* Design tools, fixtures, cutters, packaging, and gauges of complex nature efficiently to meet quality standards at minimal cost.
* Collaborate with toolmakers to resolve manufacturing issues and meet delivery schedules.
* Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of the correct products.
* Select suppliers, request quotes, and place orders ensuring value for money.
* Conduct tooling audits, handle internal concessions, and address quality issues.
* Maintain and update standard tool lists for stock control.
Personal Specification
Candidates should demonstrate:
* HNC in Mechanical/Production Engineering or equivalent.
* Experience with mechanical design software (e.g., Pro-Engineer Wildfire, Creo 3D, 2D detailing).
* Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and design for manufacture principles.
* Knowledge of Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning principles.
* Experience designing high-precision products and fixtures.
* Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
* Confidence in decision-making and awareness of their impact.
* Team player with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
* Positive attitude and ability to execute complex ideas.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AX software.
Beneficial skills include knowledge of optics, metal manufacturing, defense, aerospace, opto-mechanical assemblies, additive manufacturing, and other relevant manufacturing experience.
