Are you passionate about making a real difference in children’s lives? A welcoming primary school in Cornwall is looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a calm, non-verbal pupil with Autism in KS1.
This is a full-time role for the full academic year, with the exciting possibility of progressing from a temporary to permanent position. It’s a rewarding opportunity to help shape a child’s learning and development in their early school journey.
⭐ The Role
Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism in KS1
Use visual aids, sensory tools, and structured routines to support engagement and communication
Encourage positive social interaction and help develop emotional regulation in a nurturing setting
Support the pupil with intimate care needs when required
Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver tailored support strategies
Foster independence and confidence through patient, creative guidance
✅ About You
Experience supporting children with Autism or SEND (essential)
Comfortable supporting children with personal and intimate care needs
Familiarity with PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods (advantageous)
Calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to support and behaviour management
Able to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and parents
Desirable Experience
Previous work as a KS1 TA, EYFS practitioner, or SEND Teaching Assistant
Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3 or equivalent
Understanding of the KS1 curriculum and early childhood development
(Teaching Personnel can also provide Level 2 TA training)
