Job Description for Senior Criticality Consultant:

This role involves applying your skills to ensure safety in nuclear criticality. Working within Safety, Security & Safeguards, you'll contribute to innovative projects that benefit society through nuclear science. The position offers opportunities to develop a long and successful career while supporting cleaner energy, waste reduction, and safety.

As the nuclear industry in the UK grows, there is increased demand for expertise in new developments such as modular reactors, nuclear medicine, and decommissioning. NNL leads in these areas, especially in criticality safety assessment. The criticality team provides advice and assessments for NNL and external clients across licensed sites.

We seek a dedicated criticality specialist to lead technical assessments and develop NNL’s capabilities in this field. This includes collaboration with clients and stakeholders, and enhancing team skills to elevate NNL’s reputation nationally and internationally.

The role involves building relationships with internal teams, customers, and external specialists; guiding project delivery; developing relevant technologies and methodologies; representing NNL at national forums; and understanding stakeholder needs.

You should have a proven track record of delivering projects on time, within budget, and to high standards, with established networks at the national and international levels.

Flexible working arrangements are supported, including homeworking and location flexibility among Sellafield, Workington, Preston, or Risley, with some travel required.

Main Responsibilities:

* Leading technical project delivery in criticality safety, managing stakeholder relationships, and supervising team members.
* Providing criticality support to external clients and developing new opportunities.
* Maintaining expertise with current methodologies and leading innovation in the field.
* Representing NNL in industry groups and forums.

Essential Criteria:

* Degree or equivalent technical qualification.
* Demonstrable experience in criticality safety (SQEP 3).
* Expertise in advanced assessment techniques.
* Ability to work independently and lead teams.
* Strong networking and mentoring skills.

Desirable Criteria:

* Chartered membership of a professional institution or working towards it.

At NNL, we value diversity and inclusion, supporting your wellbeing and development through various employee benefits, including flexible working, pension schemes, health and wellness programs, and more.
