Interim Service Accountant
Based in North West London, hybrid working
Length: 6-Months (Potential for extension)

We’re working with a dynamic London local authority to recruit an experienced Service Accountant to provide strategic financial support across a key directorate. This role is central to delivering sound financial management and business partnering to service areas with complex revenue and capital budgets, while also supporting transformation and improvement agendas.
Key Responsibilities of the Interim Service Accountant:
1. Lead revenue and capital budget planning, monitoring, and closedown for a designated directorate
2. Act as a key financial adviser to service managers, providing professional support and constructive challenge
3. Coordinate the delivery of monthly monitoring reports and ensure forecasts are robust and well-evidenced
4. Support the delivery of MTFS savings plans and cost-reduction strategies
5. Deliver high-quality financial advice for senior leadership teams and contribute to reports for Members
6. Ensure compliance with accounting best practice, legislation, and internal financial regulations
7. Lead and support service grant claims, government returns, and preparation of working papers for year-end accounts
8. Manage and mentor a Senior Finance Officer, promoting a high-performance finance culture
9. Contribute to transformation projects and service improvement initiatives as part of the finance division's strategic goals
Skills, experience and knowledge required of the Interim Service Accountant:
10. CCAB-qualified accountant with previous experience in a similar role
11. Strong knowledge of local government finance, including budget setting and monitoring processes
12. Proven experience managing revenue and capital budgets in a complex organisation
