We have an opportunity for a Non-Metallic Materials Engineer to join our Aerospace team in Yeovil. In this role you will be using advanced knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes in collaboration with our design and manufacturing teams for both our new and existing products involving various aerospace products within our portfolio which include Environmental Control Systems and Life Support systems.
Responsibilities
• Primarily responsible for the selection and specification of materials and processes involved in the design and manufacture of polymer parts (Elastomers/Rubbers).
• Support on site moulding shop with process/material control and development.
• Maintain documentation relating to definition of requirements for materials and processes
• You will be a part of Design and Applications Engineering, Value Engineering, and support Supplier Transition requirements, including serving as part of the investigation in concurrent Design: participate to defining manufacturing process approval requirements, product testing and design new material qualification for aerospace applications.
• Driving specification evolution from locally-owned process specifications towards global Honeywell standards and significant supplier technical support for components with special processes, conducting maintenance audits to ensure specification and process compliance, support determination of Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) associated with process or product escapes, and identification of manufacturability improvement opportunities and cost reduction.
• Significant stakeholder management and ownership of project milestones will be expected, including key customer relationship maintenance with Honeywell Engineering (Design, Quality and Manufacturing Engineering) and Supply Chain personnel (Sourcing / ISC), as well as the entire supply base.Qualifications
• A minimum of a Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemical Technology or similar.
• Experience in materials design/selection and working experience in a manufacturing environment
• Knowledge and particular interest in Elastomers/Rubbers.
• Experience working with specialist materials and products as this will be working on aerospace products with safety critical elements attached.
• Ability to communicate clearly & concisely on complex technical matters to various levels in the organisation.
• Ability to multi-task and re-prioritize tasks quickly in a dynamically changing environment and analytical skills
