Professional Duties of a Teacher
Regulations

1. Exercise of general professional duties
2. A teacher (not a principal) shall carry out professional duties as required, under the reasonable direction of the principal or, if employed by a board, under the board's and principal's direction, as applicable.
3. Exercise of particular duties
4. A teacher shall perform duties as reasonably directed by the principal or the board, including those related to curriculum, assessment, and pupil well-being.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Planning
2. Developing and preparing courses and lessons; teaching pupils according to their educational needs; assessing and reporting on pupil development.
3. General
4. Promoting pupils' progress and well-being; providing advice and guidance; maintaining records; communicating with parents and external bodies; participating in meetings.
5. Assessment/Reporting
6. Contributing to assessments, reports, and references for pupils.
7. Staff Development
8. Participating in staff development schemes; reviewing teaching methods; engaging in professional training; contributing to course and material development.
9. Discipline and Safety
10. Maintaining discipline and safeguarding health and safety; participating in curriculum and administrative meetings.
11. Public Examinations
12. Preparing pupils for exams; assessing and reporting; supervising during exams.
13. Management and Administration
14. Contributing to staff recruitment and development; managing work of other teachers; participating in curriculum and pastoral management; handling administrative tasks.
15. Working Hours
16. Available for 195 days/year; duties as specified; not more than 25 hours/week in primary or special schools; minimum break times; defined working year and week.
17. Staff Cover
18. Providing cover for absent teachers, with specific conditions based on school size and teacher role.
