This job is located in reading and is full time on sight This role reports to the Product Owner - Systems Engineering and is accountable for delivering and continuously improving the digital engineering capabilities that support the MBSE pillar. The focus is on enabling the toolchains, digital thread, and lifecycle environments that underpin model-based systems engineering across the enterprise, ensuring authoritative models replace traditional Office documents or 2D CAD as the primary means of design, communication, and collaboration. Tasks To Be Completed Establish the MBSE digital capability team, confirming roles, capacity, and operating model required to enable delivery (product owners, architects, integration engineers, model governance leads, service managers). Engage with customers and engineering stakeholders to understand requirements, develop and prioritize the backlog, and create and communicate the MBSE capability roadmap aligned with program milestones. Define the MBSE reference architecture (model repositories, DOORS NG integration, configuration & variant management, simulation orchestration, reporting/analytics) and stand up the initial environments. Implement model governance : modeling guidelines, profiles/stereotypes, health metrics, review cadence, baselining/versioning policies, and contribution workflows. Deliver initial Digital Thread integrations (DOORS NG ↔ MBSE models ↔ test orchestration), enabling traceability from requirements to architecture elements, behaviors, and verification cases. Launch enablement & training : role-based onboarding, modeling clinics, community of practice, and adoption metrics dashboards. Demonstrate value by delivering authoritative model reviews (replacing document-centric reviews), traceability reports, and first verified simulation/analysis chains linked to requirements and test evidence. Essential Qualifications A proven ability in Systems Engineering, Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace), Computer Science, or related technical discipline. Service Management certification (e.g., ITIL ) or equivalent experience operating critical engineering services. Project/Programme Management certification (e.g., APM, PRINCE2, or SAFe/Agile ) or demonstrable experience managing complex delivery environments. Seasoned in delivering MBSE capabilities (SysML/UML modeling, requirements flowdown, architecture & interface management, behavior/parametric modeling, verification & validation, simulation integration). Aerospace/Defence or other regulated, safety-critical industries, with understanding of regulatory and assurance frameworks. Strong knowledge of model-based engineering and digital thread enablement across requirements, architecture/design, analysis/simulation, manufacturing constraints, test, and compliance evidence. Demonstrated ability to manage multi-partner and supplier integration within complex programmes and distributed teams. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and align diverse teams toward common objectives. Strong financial and resource management skills, including planning, budgeting, and cost control for digital engineering capabilities. Security clearance or eligibility for clearance in defence programs is mandatory. Desirable Qualifications INCOSE CSEP/ESEP or equivalent systems engineering certification SAFe or similar Agile delivery qualifications or demonstrable experience. Understanding of assurance/safety cases and compliance evidence practices in systems engineering. Experience managing suppliers and integrators for MBSE platforms, IBM DOORS NG, configuration management, and simulation orchestration tools. Knowledge of product line engineering (PLE), feature modeling, variant/option management, and global configuration strategies. Ability to operate pragmatically and remain outcome-focused in dynamic environments; comfortable working with ambiguity and driving clarity through structured approaches, metrics, and governance. Skilled in constructive challenge while maintaining strong, collaborative relationships across diverse stakeholders. Strong sense of ownership and accountability for delivery of enabling capabilities. Experience with collaborative tools and environments supporting distributed engineering team.
