Job responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY
To provide an accurate dispensing service for country patients and temporary residents and to administer the repeat prescribing process for all patients and district nurses.
* To ensure that all dispensing is carried out with accuracy to ensure patient safety
* To adhere to all standard operating procedures within dispensary and to continuously audit work practice to highlight areas where accuracy may be compromised
* To monitor repeat prescribing as laid down in practice guidelines and to report any areas of non-compliance.
PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES
Dispense prescriptions for country patients and temporary residents
Receive payments for NHS and private scripts and keep balanced records of financial transactions
Enter controlled drugs in the controlled drugs register, complying with relevant legislation
Order all drugs from distributors and check in and place on shelves on arrival ensuring stock levels are optimised and stock control procedures adhered to
Receive unwanted drugs and enter in the Drugs book, ensuring safe disposal according to procedures
Deal appropriately with product information relating to product recall and faulty product batches, etc.
Deal with the return of incorrectly shipped products
Adhere to procedures for ordering and checking in of goods, counting of prescriptions and passing all relevant checked documentation to finance for payment.
Double check all dispensed items according to the Standard Operating Procedure.
Order supplies for dispensary as needed, filling up containers and maintaining the shelves in a satisfactory condition ensuring stock is rotated and maintained in date.
Maintain a safe working environment to meet all Heath & Safety Guidelines and procedures relating to the dispensing of drugs and related products.
Liaise with the providers of home oxygen for patients to ensure that they receive oxygen when they need it.
Deal with patient enquiries and requests relating to the Dispensary and the dispensing of items.
Carry out Dispensing Review of Use of Medication (DRUMS) with patients
Keep up to date with changes within the pharmaceutical industry which affect the practice by attending relevant training events, undertaking further education and by seeing representatives of the drug companies.
Any other duties which may be developed in line with the Practice Business Plan
