Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team here on New Forrest Ward. We specialise in Diabetes and Endocrinology (D&E) mixed with acute general medicine. There are opportunities for building and improving new ways of working, expanding the team, and learning opportunities in these specialities with opportunities for progression. The role requires working a range of shifts across a 24-hour period, seven days a week, with support from the MDT, Band 6 co-ordinator, Medical team and Ward Manager. This is a busy, rewarding ward environment with emphasis on staff wellbeing and development.
Main duties / Responsibilities
* Ensure high standards of care are given in relation to agreed standards, policies and procedures of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust
* Participate in teaching and facilitating a learning environment to ensure all staff on the ward have the necessary skills and support
* Be proactive with transfers and discharges, ensuring safety and earliest possible discharge
* Ensure Junior staff are aware of agreed standards of practice
* Assist in evaluating new nursing procedures, research and initiatives and incorporate into practice where appropriate
* Participate in the MDT and ensure necessary admission and discharge documentation is completed in a timely manner
* Store and administer prescribed drugs safely in line with legal and Trust requirements
* Act up as a senior to coordinate the shift when required
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient problems with a written care plan as required
* Report, document and evaluate accidents and unit incidents via Datix
* Participate in the development of clinical supervision within the ward
* Participate in educating staff and be an NMC Supervisor and Assessor for student nurses
* Autonomously request/carry out clinical investigations to aid and confirm diagnosis
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues
