A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our Paediatric, Neonatal & Young People Care Group. You will have delegated responsibilities in supporting the Care Group Manager/Deputy Care Group Manager and clinical teams with a wide range of operational and administrative duties including oversight of the 18 week RTT pathways and access processes. There will be overall line management responsibilities of a team of medical secretaries and ward administration staff together with project support and data collection against performance targets as required.

This is the perfect role for those wishing to progress into a first line management role; the post holder will be a key member of the Care Group Team and will share our commitment to delivering the best possible care to the patients we serve.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting with the management of the day to day delivery of an effective and efficient patient focused service:

* Providing business support to the Care Group including monitoring of RTT targets where appropriate.
* To manage the work of an administrative function.
* To carry out administrative tasks.
* The post holder will be accountable for own actions and to manage their own workload.
* To provide day to day line management to the admin team and provide support and cover for other administrative services within the Care Group.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state‑of‑the‑art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.

Main Responsibilities

* To communicate information with patients, relatives and staff on a variety of departmental matters and procedures.
* To communicate complicated administrative information to staff from other departments, external contacts.
* To communicate complex, sensitive, contentious information with a range of stakeholders, where persuasion or negotiation is required.
* To exercise judgements when dealing with the analysis of business performance information and decisions to ensure targets are achieved.
* To develop and implement plans/work streams and to manage and organise activities.
* To manage a service/project and to ensure that targets are met.
* May need to communicate with patients, but on non‑clinical matters (i.e. appointment times, provide directions or explain local procedures).
* To develop and implement administration policies for own area of work.
* To maintain stock levels and to make orders through the appropriate systems/Authorised Signature for a small amount.
* To provide day to day management to staff.
* Undertake surveys or audits, as necessary to own work i.e. completes staff surveys, complete basic audit proformas.
* To monitor and maintain information systems.
* To develop databases/spreadsheets, to collate or produce reports on a regular basis.
* To input data onto relevant systems, required to store and retrieve information or to collate and report data.
* Optimise the use of technology for area of own work.


Additional Responsibilities

* To be familiar and comply with relevant operational, personnel, health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring that all staff managed adhere to the same.
* To actively participate in the Trust appraisal process.
* To maintain confidentiality at all times relating to the patients, staff and the Trust.
* To be familiar with relevant Operational, Personnel, Health and Safety Policies and procedures, including Fire, COSHH, No Smoking and Alcohol.
* Ensure a Change Agent approach that minimises clinical risk and adds value to the patient experience.
* Ensure a quality orientated approach to care which recognises the needs and views of patients/clients and their carers (where applicable) and places the patient at the centre of all activities.
* Participate in personal professional development programme and encourage this ethos in other staff with the aim of achieving progression and innovation.
* Take every opportunity to develop new knowledge and acquire new skills as appropriate to the role.
* Work with individual teams to adhere to financial management controls, identify areas of efficiencies and control spend.
* Provide support during tender or procurement exercises.
* Provide general business support to the Divisional Management Team in the management of current service delivery and future service redesign as deemed appropriate and relevant to the post.
