Payroll Officer – London (Full‑time, Permanent)
Within the Fexco Group, the UK Retail Foreign Exchange (RFX) Division delivers customer‑focused travel money services through a network of 64 retail locations and 170 agents. Our services span well‑known brands such as No1 Currency. RFX will soon integrate the Sainsbury’s Travel Money Business, expanding customer reach and service offerings. We are currently seeking a Payroll Officer to join our London Hammersmith office three days per week, with the option to work from home two days per week.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the main point of contact between the organisation and the outsourced payroll provider.
* Manage all payroll input data, including variable pay elements.
* Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation (PAYE, NI, NMW/NLW, pensions, statutory leave).
* Review draft payroll reports, exception files and final outputs to ensure accuracy prior to sign‑off.
* Monitor service levels and ensure the provider meets agreed timelines and quality standards.
* Respond to colleague queries regarding pay slips, tax codes and deductions.
* Provide training to store colleagues on payroll cut‑off dates, timesheet processes, and pay entitlements.
* Maintain data integrity across HRIS and time & attendance systems.
* Conduct regular checks for timesheet anomalies, duplicated hours, attendance gaps or NMW risks.
* Assist with internal and external payroll audits, financial reporting and statutory returns.
* Produce payroll‑related reports for HR and Finance as required.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
* Strong experience coordinating or administering UK payroll, ideally within a retail or hospitality environment.
* Sound understanding of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, NI, NMW/NLW, pensions and statutory leave.
* Experience using HRIS and T&A systems; working knowledge of HiBob or UKG is beneficial.
* Proven experience working with outsourced payroll providers or processing partner payroll.
* Strong numerical ability and confidence reviewing large volumes of data.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
* CPA, CIPD, CIPP or equivalent payroll qualifications.
* Experience managing 4‑weekly payroll cycles.
* Experience supporting payroll audits or compliance requirements.
* High attention to detail and accuracy, especially when working with large datasets.
* Strong organisational skills and ability to meet strict cut‑off deadlines.
* Confident operating in a fast‑paced, high‑volume retail environment.
* Approachable, supportive, and able to handle colleague queries calmly and clearly.
* Proactive approach to identifying issues, resolving anomalies and preventing errors.
* Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates strong professional integrity.
* Clear communicator able to liaise effectively with HR, Finance, store teams and external partners.
