Overview
Geotechnical Engineer
My client is a specialist civil and geotechnical design consultancy with particular interest in geotechnics. They have a well-equipped design office in the West Midlands with private parking, and close to a train station. Although they are a small company, they are accredited to undertake permanent and temporary works designs on major infrastructure projects including stabilisation schemes, retaining walls, drainage, soil nails & ground anchor designs, mining risk assessments, embankment and cutting slope and checking of third party designs. They are well respected within the industry and have framework contracts in place with major Principal Contractors. They are now looking for a Geotechnical Design Engineer to join their team.
Must-have attributes include detailed knowledge of Eurocodes and current engineering codes of practice, effective written and verbal communication skills, analytical/geotechnical design experience (earthworks, foundations, drainage), knowledge of industry standard software (e.g. Slope/W, WALLAP, REPUTE, TEDDS, AutoCAD, Excel, etc.), experience in the preparation of construction drawings, specifications and designers risk assessments, and a good understanding of ground investigation methods and interpretation of ground investigation results.
Other requirements include the ability to identify defects/instability features in earthworks, retaining walls and drainage systems, experience of client liaison and attendance at design review meetings, the ability to work to deadlines with excellent planning and organisation skills, the ability to work independently and good technical report writing skills.
Responsibilities
* Participate in all aspects of geotechnical design development including site surveys, feasibility and options studies, analytical design, preparation of reports, specifications and drawings, budgetary control and liaison with clients and suppliers.
* Develop practical geotechnical solutions for projects such as inspection and assessment of cuttings, retaining walls, culverts and drainage assets; develop options for remedial or upgrading works.
* Collaborate with an experienced design team in a well-rounded career environment that supports skill development.

Qualifications
