SPORTS ASSISTANT - (Children's Activities) Queen Mary’s College operates several income generating facilities across its vibrant 23-acre campus, including a leisure centre, theatre, esports arena, recording studio and facility lettings. Whilst the college’s primary goal remains its educational objectives there is an opportunity to increase the income and strengthen its reputation from making available its facilities and activities to the wider community. Central Studio is a small, state-of-the-art theatre in Basingstoke, located on the campus of Queen Mary's College. The Studio hosts a wealth of events and performances including, comedy, dance, drama, live music, children's theatre and interactive workshops. Central Studio has been specifically designed to provide space as well as entertainment to the community, and with a large variety of different spaces available, the venue is suitable to cater for commercial, professional, amateur and community performances, arts and educational organisations, dance schools, conferences, training sessions, meetings, parties, rehearsals and more. PERSON SPECIFICATION The ideal applicant for this role is someone looking to gain further experience working in the leisure industry and has previous experience of delivering children’s activities, either through an educational course or holds a formal qualification such as JSLA/CSLA. By rota, the successful candidates will work as a Sports Assistant delivering children’s activities. The candidate must be available to work through school holidays, weekends and be willing to cover additional evening/weekend shifts if required. Purpose of Job: To assist with the planning and delivery of children’s activities offered by QM Leisure during school holidays and weekends. To provide an outstanding customer experience to all children attending the sessions and customers of QM Sports Centre Essential Criteria • Relevant sports course or other coaching qualification/experience • The ability to use your own initiative and pay attention to detail • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills • Excellent coaching skills & past experience of working with children • Willing to undergo further training where necessary Desirable: • Experience of working in a customer-related or sports-coaching role • Cash handling experience • Computer literate and willing to learn leisure operating systems • Fitness Instructor Certificate and NPLQ Lifeguard certificate would be an advantage but training can be provided JOB DESCRIPTION Key outcomes Coach children aged 7 – 11 years old in multi-sport activities during our Sporting Stars holiday club. To act as party leader during our Sports parties for ages 5 – 11 years. Accountable to: Commercial Operations Manager and/or Duty Manager as appropriate Specific Responsibilities: • To instruct and/or coach children’s activities/sporting sessions as and when required and in particular to assist in the development and running of children’s activities and parties • To cover the reception desk; maintaining tight access control, including collecting payments in advance and acknowledging attendance for bookings, ensuring accuracy of data entry and delivering outstanding customer service • To assist in clerical and administration duties as and when necessary • To ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to • To ensure all health and safety procedures and policies are observed at all times • To carry out cleaning duties as required • To demonstrate commitment to ongoing training and education to enable you to assist with the running of sports sessions • To carry out any other duties requested by the Commercial Operations Manager, Saturday Supervisor or Duty Manager • To act as a Lifeguard during public swimming sessions (Training will be provided) Benefits This role attracts a number of benefits such as, use of the Sports Centre facilities, free onsite parking, complimentary beverages for all staff, related training and development, and a generous sickness and maternity package.
