About the job
We are seeking a Deputy Head of Operations to assist in all aspects of the operation of the hospital and provide support to the Bird Care team.
This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week on a rota basis, with the hospital normally operational between 8 am and 8 pm in the summer and 9 am and 4 pm in the winter, 7 days a week including Bank Holidays and weekends. Under normal circumstances leave is not granted during June, July and August for operational reasons.

Main duties and responsibilities
1. To uphold a culture of excellence in the operation of the hospital to ensure its cost-effective and compliant operation
2. To assist in the development of a strong and collaborative team ethos amongst permanent and volunteer members of the hospital team
3. To assist in the recruitment, selection and management of our volunteer teams
4. To assist in the delivery and staffing of reception facilities for the admittance of birds
5. To assist in the delivery of our online and social media presence
6. To assist in the delivery of our membership offer
7. To assist in the delivery of our fundraising strategy
8. To assist in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the hospital site
9. To comply with the hospitals visual, written and online identity guidelines
10. To delegate for the Head of Operations as required
11. To undertake other duties not specifically stated above as may be required by the Head of Operations
Dimensions of the job

Decision-making authority
1. Day-to-day operation of all the non-clinical aspects of the hospital as delegated by the Head of Operations

Report Preparation
1. Assist in the production of the Quarterly Newsletter to members
2. Assist in the Production of the annual External Report
Contact with others
1. Hospital staff, volunteers, members and external suppliers
2. Other wildlife sanctuaries and partners
3. Selected media
Most challenging/difficult elements of the job
Ability to work collaboratively with full-time team members and volunteers in a high-pressure environment.
Experience, knowledge, qualifications and training
1. Good organisational and administrative skills
2. Experience of working with volunteers would be an advantage
3. Experience in a veterinary or wildlife organisation would be an advantage
4. Good interpersonal skills
5. Good numeracy skills
6. IT literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, the Internet and databases

About us
Mousehole Wild Bird Hospital Cornwall is the only wildlife centre in Cornwall dedicated purely to the rehabilitation of wild birds and is a registered charity. Caring for both land and sea birds we rescue, treat and rehabilitate over a 1,000 birds every year and always aim to release birds back to the wild. We have exciting plans to develop our historic site in Mousehole and also develop a new fully bio secure seabird centre.
