An opportunity has arisen for a Scientist to join ESCO Maritime Solutions based in Staffordshire, within the Underwater Measurement Systems Department of the Research team. Reporting to the Research Team Leader, the successful candidate will play a vital role within a dedicated team of Scientists. The role involves undertaking studies and developing software and system designs related to vessel systems and underwater measurement ranges, primarily dealing with electromagnetic fields. The candidate will collaborate closely with team members to develop technical solutions that meet project objectives.
Key responsibilities
The successful candidate will engage in scientific, modelling, and programming activities from bid to delivery in areas including:
* Magnetic and electric source modelling
* Electromagnetic field propagation in conducting and non-conducting media
* Finite Element Analysis & Boundary Element Analysis
* Numerical & Optimisation Methods
* Modern Control Theory
Personal attributes
* Minimum of a degree in a scientific or mathematical discipline; physics or mathematics preferred
* Post-graduate degree or experience in physics or mathematics desirable
* Proficiency in computer skills; experience in C++ beneficial
* Experience in electromagnetic modelling, Vector Fields FEA, COMSOL, MATLAB/Simulink advantageous
* Strong English report writing skills
* Presentation and training skills; confidence in customer-facing roles
* Willingness to travel for site work, research, or trials in the UK and worldwide
* Ability to obtain relevant security vetting clearance
