Veterinary Surgeon – Hertfordshire, UK
Salary: £45,000–£65,000 DOE | Flexible 4-Day Week | Supportive Team
Are you a confident Veterinary Surgeon looking for a rewarding role in Stevenage, Hertfordshire? This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-supported small animal practice with a collaborative team, varied caseload, and strong clinical leadership. Ideal for a vet with 2–3 years’ experience who is comfortable with routine surgery and consulting and ready to continue developing their clinical interests.
The Role
This is a flexible, permanent position offering a great balance of consulting and surgery in a friendly, progressive environment.
Key responsibilities include:
* Deliver high-quality clinical care through consultations and routine surgical procedures
* Perform routine surgeries such as spays and neuters confidently
* Work collaboratively with an experienced Lead Vet and supportive nursing team
* Manage a varied caseload with opportunities to develop surgical or imaging interests
* Provide occasional sole charge on Fridays (with advance notice and full support available)
* Contribute to maintaining excellent clinical and client care standards
Working Pattern
* Ideally 4 days per week (flexibility available)
* Friday working is essential (Lead Vet’s day off)
* Shift pattern: 8:30am–6:30pm with 1-hour lunch break
* Weekend rota: 1 in 3 at branch level or ideally 1 in 6 at hospital level
* Occasional sole charge, fully supported and planned in advance
The Team & Environment
You’ll be joining a supportive and experienced team including a Lead Vet with a strong surgical focus, Practice owner, part-time vets, regular locum support, and a proactive nursing team who run their own consults. The practice actively encourages clinical development, and any special interests - particularly in surgery or imaging can be supported and grown.
Candidate Requirements
* MRCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon
* Ideally 2–3 years’ UK small animal experience
* Confident with routine consultations and surgeries (e.g., spays, neuters)
* Able to work independently when required
* Keen to develop clinical skills and contribute positively to the team
