Teacher – REAL Alternative Provision (City Hub, Nottingham)

Are you a teacher who believes every young person deserves to feel seen, valued and capable of success?

Do you thrive in environments where relationships matter just as much as curriculum?

If so, REAL Alternative Provision in Nottingham City wants to meet you.

About the Role

We're looking for a passionate, resilient and creative Teacher to join our REAL City Hub team. You'll work with pupils who have often felt let down by mainstream education — young people who need someone who can teach and truly connect.

You'll deliver high‑quality teaching across a broad curriculum, with knowledge of Maths at KS3/KS4 along with Functional Skills being particularly advantageous. Additional subject strengths or personal interests are welcomed; they help us offer a rich, engaging and flexible learning experience.

What Teaching Looks Like Here

1. Small groups of 3–6 learners, allowing you to build meaningful relationships and tailor learning effectively.
2. Some 1:1 teaching, especially to support transition into group learning.
3. TA support available, including 1:1 targeted work under your direction and TA allocation for groups of 4–6 where needed.
4. Adaptive, relational teaching that prioritises engagement, wellbeing and progress.
5. Holistic curriculum delivery, blending academic, personal and life‑skills learning.
6. Manageable planning and marking, with a strong emphasis on creativity, innovation and pupil voice.

What You'll Do

7. Set ambitious, personalised targets and track progress using robust baseline assessments.
8. Deliver engaging lessons that support academic, personal and wellbeing outcomes.
9. Use relational and restorative approaches to behaviour and engagement.
10. Create safe, inclusive and purposeful learning environments.
11. Work closely with specialist staff, families and external agencies to support reintegration or next‑step pathways.
12. Contribute to curriculum planning, resource development and whole‑team approaches.
13. Model high‑level safeguarding practice at all times.

What We're Looking For

14. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE or equivalent.
15. Ability to teach a specialist subject and contribute to wider curriculum areas.
16. A reflective practitioner committed to professional development.
17. A driver (due to the nature of the role).
18. Experience in special or alternative provision is desirable but not essential — the right mindset matters most.
19. Confidence using relational and restorative behaviour strategies.

(Requirements drawn from the JD)

Why This Role Appeals to the Right Teacher

20. You want to make a real difference for pupils who need a fresh start.
21. You value relationships over rigid routines.
22. You enjoy creative, flexible teaching that adapts to individual needs.
23. You're energised by small classes, big impact, and a team that genuinely cares.
24. You want to work somewhere where your ideas matter and your wellbeing is valued.

How to apply?

Please complete an online application form in full, remembering to include all employment and education details.

Successful applicants will be subject to pre-employment safeguarding checks including an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Aurora Group is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

The Aurora Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and young adults in our care and is a disability confident and equal opportunities employer.
