Content Designer – UK Home Office

Join the UK Home Office as a Content Designer and help shape user‑centred digital products and services. You will work across cross‑functional teams to create clear, accessible, and engaging content for both internal and public‑facing systems.

Responsibilities

* Scope, write and edit content for internal and public‑facing digital services
* Work with multidisciplinary teams to identify user needs and agree on the right design approach
* Choose the best format for delivering content to users
* Monitor content and tool performance, identify improvements, and implement data‑driven changes
* Ensure content is relevant, accurate, and up to date by working with stakeholders and subject‑matter experts
* Advise teammates on the value of content design and facilitate collaboration across projects
* Contribute to the UCD community by attending, organising events, leading discussions, and sharing best practices
* Encourage constructive criticism of your work and review the work of colleagues, including peer reviews

Skills & Experience

* Prototyping and concept creation: advising on or creating product, service or policy concepts and prototypes using sketching, design software, physical mock‑ups or code
* Content design: writing and editing content in line with defined processes and standards, and simplifying complex language for a non‑specialist audience
* Evidence‑based design: using analytics, feedback and research to understand user needs and inform content decisions
* Accessibility and inclusion: assessing the accessibility of online content and advising teams on how to fix issues for inclusivity
* Collaboration: participating and facilitating group work, seeking feedback on your work and providing constructive feedback to others
* Communication, persuasion and advocacy: clearly articulating the benefits of a user‑centred approach based on evidence

Benefits

* Exceptional pension: Employer contribution of 28.97%
* Generous leave: 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 with service), 8 public holidays, and 1 day for the King’s Birthday
* Flexible working: full‑time, part‑time, compressed hours, job sharing, and a hybrid model (minimum 60% on‑site)
* Learning and development: training, technical accreditations, and funded qualifications (subject to approval)
* Inclusion and recognition: a culture that champions diversity, enhanced parental leave schemes, annual bonuses, and recognition awards
