Turning Point's drug & alcohol services are expanding during an exciting time in the sector with new funding and investment. We have a range of roles for people passionate about supporting others to make change. We have roles in different teams including:
* Community based treatment services: providing assessment, coordinating treatment and working in partnership to support individuals. The roles include delivering structured psycho-social interventions in group and one-to-one settings to enable service users to acquire thinking skills and behaviours to make lasting change.
* Homeless outreach provision: Targeting homeless individuals, offering a flexible and outreach response to highly vulnerable individuals sleeping rough or living in temporary accommodation.
* Criminal Justice rehabilitation/recovery services: working closely with Probation Services, Prisons and Police to provide a rapid, tailored response to individuals that support their recovery and rehabilitation.
Role and career progression
As a Recovery Worker, you will be a "key worker" to a caseload of service users, supporting them to decide their goals around treatment and to develop plans to achieve these. The role includes maintaining regular contact with clients, offering advice, information and psychosocial interventions, as well as providing assessments, risk management planning, and working closely with clinical staff around prescribing needs and partner agencies. You will have opportunities to progress with a structured learning journey and clearly defined career pathways to achieve long-term goals, whether you aim to progress into management and leadership roles or become a specialist in the field as an Advanced Substance Use Practitioner. Salary starts at £25,116 and increases each year in line with pay progression bands, rising to £29,383 per year (dependent on experience; you may be offered a starting salary above the initial amount). You will be supported in your role by extensive training to help develop your skills. Our learning culture encourages staying up to date with the latest developments in the field and helps drive service improvement.
Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of service users and work with them to set and achieve treatment goals.
* Maintain regular contact with clients and provide advice, information and psychosocial interventions.
* Conduct assessments, risk management planning, and collaborate with clinical staff and partner agencies.
* Communicate effectively with a range of service users and colleagues; adapt to multiple tasks; uphold Turning Point values.
* Utilise lived experience where applicable and leverage transferable skills from related backgrounds to support recovery goals.
Requirements and qualities
* Understanding of substance and alcohol use and the challenges and opportunities on a recovery journey.
* Flexibility to work dynamically on one-to-one and group settings; knowledge of relapse and barriers to recovery; willingness to develop skills as needed.
* Excellent communication skills and alignment with the organisation values; appreciation for lived experience and openness to entry-level opportunities through our Trainee Recovery Worker program.
* Creativity, initiative, and willingness to identify opportunities to improve service quality and user experience; willingness to be supported with training.
* Candidates with lived experience or background in health and social care are welcomed; we also value transferable skills from mental health, housing, and related fields.
