The Role
As an IT Platform Engineer, you will make a significant difference by designing, implementing, and maintaining cutting-edge IT infrastructure that empowers the Defence sector to operate more efficiently and securely, contributing to the protection of lives through innovative technology solutions.
Day-to-day, you'll be at the forefront of building and maintaining critical IT systems, leveraging your expertise in Windows, VMware, and Cisco technologies to ensure seamless operations. You'll resolve complex technical issues and drive the modernisation of Defence's deployable IT estate.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Building critical deployable IT Infrastructure within the Defence environment
2. Installing and maintaining computer hardware and software systems using Windows, VMWare, and Cisco products
3. Responding to technical support calls and reacting to ITSM support applications
4. Monitoring complex environments proactively to prevent downtime and ensure smooth operations
5. Maintaining network connectivity and accurately recording changes
6. Managing backups of servers to prevent data loss in case of system failures
Essential experience of the IT Platform Engineer:
1. Strong experience with administering virtualised environments such as VMWare and vCenter
2. Strong experience with Windows Servers
3. Experience working with Veeam backup and managing network infrastructures
4. A background in working within complex IT environments to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively
5. Experience working with different computer hardware and using/administering Microsoft AD, Group Policy, and DNS
Essential qualifications for the IT Platform Engineer:
1. ITIL V4 Foundation, Microsoft Certified Server Associate, CCNA, or relevant technical experience

This role is 37 hours per week based at MOD Corsham. There is a 1 in 6 week rotation for providing out-of-hours cover.
