Abatec are excited to partner with our client, a leading name in the infrastructure and civil engineering sector, who are looking to recruit an Assistant QS looking to step up to a Quantity Surveyor to join their Regional Civils division. This role is based at Plymouth’s Devonport Dockyard, working on a landmark project valued at over £200 million, set to run over the next 3–4 years. This is a unique opportunity for a commercially astute QS with a strong background in delivering complex, high-value infrastructure schemes – ideally with a solid grasp of NEC4 contracts. As an Assistant QS/Quantity Surveyor, you will: * Leading all commercial aspects of the project, ensuring profitability, accuracy, and contract compliance * Managing the contract cost reporting system, forecasts, and final valuations * Handling contract variations, claims, and subcontractor accounts with diligence * Working closely with project management to develop and implement commercial strategies * Ensuring all duties are performed in line with HSE standards and company procedures * Maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders including clients, subcontractors, and internal teams * Providing accurate monthly cost/value reporting and cash flow forecasting * Supporting project reviews, BIM integration (where applicable), and driving best practices Our client requires an Assistant QS/Quantity Surveyor, with: * A degree in Quantity Surveying (BSc/MSc) or equivalent experience * Chartered status or working towards (RICS, CIOB, ICES) * Proven experience managing large civil engineering or infrastructure projects * Deep understanding of NEC4 contracts and strong contract management skills * Commercially driven, with excellent analytical and communication abilities * A proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration Salary and benefits include: * £45,000 - £55,000 per annum DOE * Company car or car allowance * Generous annual leave volunteering leave * Pension scheme & share plan * Employee assistance and recognition programmes If you would like more information, or to apply for this vacancy, please contact Hayley Fisher on (phone number removed).
