Job overview

The Cancer Pathway Co-ordinator (MDT) post is a pivotal role in ensuring timely patient progression through their pathway both before and after a cancer diagnosis has been made. The ideal candidate will enjoy problem solving and providing patients with excellent care by coordinating their appointments, tests and treatments in a timely manner; be flexible and adaptable, a good team player but also able to work well on their own initiative and willing to take on a variety of duties, whilst having the ability to maintain attention to detail.

You will need to be organised, patient focused and an excellent communicator and planner with the ability to manage competing pressures and priorities which will frequently change. You will also have an interest in monitoring performance, driving change and improving processes and systems. The ability to work autonomously, be proactive and able to take initiative to solve problems are crucial for this post. It will involve working collaboratively with both clinical and non-clinical teams to deliver the objectives of the service.

The key features of the role are ensuring that all patients within the designated specialities are tracked against the national 28, 31 and 62 day cancer waiting time targets. This includes highlighting any potential breaches of the targets to the Cancer Services Manager and the clinical team in a timely fashion. The successful applicant will also co-ordinate the preparation of a Multi-Disciplinary Team meeting, operating video-conference equipment and the collection and presentation of patient related data as required.

Main duties of the job

To support the implementation of the NHS Cancer Plan by providing dedicated and effective administrative support to multi-disciplinary teams, working together with the team members to facilitate the delivery of a high quality of care for cancer patients.

Experience / Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Previous NHS experience in a MDT/similar role.
2. Cancer PTL Tracking/Management

Desirable criteria

3. Previous experience working in one or more tumour groups
4. Excellent IT skills working with Word, Excel and Outlook

Skills / Abilities

Essential criteria

5. Excellent self-organisation and prioritisation skills.

Desirable criteria

6. Good working knowledge of the cancer database (Somerset Cancer Registry)
