Client Commercial Lead – Public Sector (Billable Consultant looking for less utilisation and more relationship management)

Location:
Remote-first with travel to client site

Salary:
£70,000 – £90, % bonus based on individual performance + significant annual profit share + 10% pension

Contract:
Full-time, permanent - Open to considering candidates seeking a 4-day work week on a pro rata basis (Fridays off)

that has successfully grown into a multi-million-pound business. As they enter an exciting new growth phase, they are seeking a
Client Consultancy Lead
to help diversify their client base across different government departments such as DWP, Home Office, MoD, etc.

This role is ideal for a commercially minded senior/principal delivery consultant who combines strong
technical delivery awareness
in
digital, data or technology services
with
excellent relationship-building skills,
looking for a less utilisation-heavy role and more of a client relationship lead.

The consultancy offers a strong company-wide profit-sharing scheme, fostering collaboration and offering staff a direct stake in its success.

The Role: Client Commercial Lead:

We are seeking a Client Consultancy Lead / Principal Consultant to spearhead growth and open new doors in the UK public sector.

The ideal candidate will be a senior consultant who has worked within data, digital transformation, or IT consulting services in central government departments, who is now looking to focus on relationship building and being a trusted advisor to the board.

You will have a consultative approach and be used to selling outcomes (advisory, engineering, programmes of work) rather than off-the-shelf products. You will also scope bespoke solutions, co-create proposals with delivery teams, and set realistic expectations for delivery.

This role is not about hard-sell tactics, we want someone who can act as a
trusted advisor
, building deep relationships and uncovering opportunities before they hit the tender stage. You will be equally comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders, understanding complex problems, and positioning our client as the consultancy of choice.

Top Priorities in the First Six Months:

1. Secure new client wins within targeted government departments like DWP and the Home Office
2. Build long-term, trusted relationships across target government departments.
3. Embed into our clients' family culture and contribute to growth and collaboration

Key Responsibilities:

* Growth & Diversification:
Expand the public sector presence into government departments like DWP, Home Office, MoD etc
* Relationship Building:
Develop trusted networks within target organisations, spotting opportunities early.
* Problem Solving:
Understand client challenges and shape data-driven consultancy solutions.
* Strategic Engagement:
Position yourself as a credible, approachable advisor who navigates the political landscape with ease.
* Project Selling:
Focus on consultancy teams and project delivery advisory work

What We're Looking For:

* Strong background in previous technical consulting (Data) and public sector expertise (this is a mandatory requirement)
* Established relationships within major government departments (this is a mandatory requirement)
* Understanding of data, technology, and digital transformation
* Familiar with data and AI buzzwords and able to ground them in government use cases:
* Data governance (compliance, ethics, transparency).
* Data engineering & integration across silos.
* Analytics for fraud detection, citizen services, and operational efficiency.
* AI/ML applied in policy, security, or service delivery contexts.
* A natural communicator, ideally an extrovert techie who enjoys client interaction.
* Self-motivated, curious, and willing to go "all in" to solve client problems.
