Traffic regulation and Licencing Officer

Join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in managing the legal traffic order-making process at Essex County Council. As a vital member, you'll contribute to the management of Permanent, Experimental, and Select Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders, ensuring the smooth operation of our transportation systems.
Your responsibilities will extend to drafting consents, licenses, and permissions on behalf of the council for third-party entities seeking to place objects on or above the public highway. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on the county's infrastructure while collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
The Role
1. Assisting in the preparation and implementation of traffic regulation orders and other statutory processes and documents
2. To be responsible for the drafting in accordance with the legislation of consents, licences, and permission for the placement of items on over or below the public highway
3. To ensure that each request is correctly logged, and progress documented and kept up to date
4. To investigate and reply to enquiries concerning the traffic order/licencing process, including from elected Members, MP’s and the public, in a timely and efficient way
5. To check that requests and documents are compliant with Essex County Council policies and national legislation
About You
6. Have a knowledge and an understanding of the Highway code and traffic regulation
7. Experience of working independently and evidence of taking ownership of allocated workload, including delivery of documentation to a set timeframe
8. Good communication skills including experience of dealing with enquiries or similar
9. Good written English and experience of writing reports in a set format
10. Experience of working with others to identify issues and aid resolution
