Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Trust Doctor on a fixed-term contract for 12 months in General Surgery, Trustwide.
General surgical services in Northumbria are delivered by a Trustwide multidisciplinary team. This is an opportunity to join an organization where clinicians are at the forefront of management.

The Emergency Surgery and Elective Care Business Unit manages principal general surgery departments at The Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH), North Tyneside General Hospital, Wansbeck General Hospital, and Hexham General Hospital. The departments benefit from substantial capital investment, modern facilities, and state-of-the-art equipment. Staff are enthusiastic, friendly, and motivated, working effectively as a team with excellent relationships with surgeons and clinicians.
All emergency and some higher-risk elective surgeries, along with Critical Care, are now located at NSECH, separating elective and emergency streams to improve planning and service quality. The patient flow logistics and location of higher-risk elective surgeries are still evolving, offering opportunities for reconfiguration at North Tyneside and Wansbeck Hospitals.
The Trust manages three major hospitals and numerous community clinics across a large geographical area, including North Tyneside, Wansbeck, and Hexham. It is a leading innovator with a state-of-the-art Emergency Care Hospital—the first of its kind in England.

The successful candidate will participate in a minimum 1 in 8 rota, including late, weekend, and night shifts, with full support from registrars and consultants. Duties include theatre work, outpatient clinics, and ward-based activities.
