Role: Design Manager – Cables
Location: Cambuslang / South or West regions (as applicable)
Salary: from £69,200 to £86,500 per annum plus up to 20% annual bonus, car allowance (£450pcm) and family healthcare

Summary: Manage and lead a team of professional Transmission design engineers responsible for developing, assessing and providing complex detailed engineering designs, balancing innovation and value-driven engineering to reduce overall asset lifecycle costs. You will be a key influencer in investment planning decisions as part of the development and delivery of the Transmission capital project program to support the UK’s Net Zero Emission Target.
Role context: You will be responsible for Cable Engineering design in the South or West regions within the SPT Core Projects business to deliver projects with Totex value of £200m/annum to over £500m/annum by 2027. You will have line management responsibility for a number of FTE Engineers (Lead, Senior and Design).
Responsibilities Include
 * Overall responsibility for ensuring Cable Engineering deliverables in the allocated region are delivered on time and in line with the required SPT Standards and Policies.
 * Lead and manage a group of professional engineers to deliver cost effective end-to-end design solutions within West or South transmission projects/programmes, ensuring regulatory financial allowances.
 * Liaise with other team leaders to address coordination; collaboration across regions and functions to deliver satisfactory change outcomes.
 * Ensure that all HSEQ policies are applied and compliance with all Engineering policies, standards and procedures.
 * Support standardised design solutions to drive efficiency and design consistency across the SPT business.
 * Lead a group of professional engineers to deliver Cable projects.
 * Ensure adequate training, coaching and mentoring to advance the knowledge, skills and experience of the team.
 * Deliver performance management for a team of professional engineers.
 * Lead the technical resolution of site/construction Cable related issues and provide support for technical resolutions; analyse common faults and prevent re-occurrence.
 * Ensure specifications, Cable designs, equipment and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
What You’ll Bring
 * Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline or 10 years equivalent experience.
 * Chartered Engineer Status (or working towards).
 * Technical oversight and management skills; Building and applying knowledge and skills.
 * Experience in designing Cable Systems for large electrical infrastructure projects.
 * People and communication skills with the ability to form effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
 * Ability to implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice in a design environment.
 * Experience with implementation of new technologies and engineering solutions to achieve reductions in costs and carbon in sustainable projects.
 * Broad thinking skills; understanding of plant and equipment deployed for transmission networks and how it is operated/maintained.
 * Experience in managing a team of professional engineers.
 * Ability to plan and engineer conflicting requirements and meet challenging deadlines.
 * Knowledge and experience to provide on-site technical solutions to unforeseen engineering problems that mitigate program slippage.
