We are recruiting a Tractor Driver / Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our grounds maintenance team, working primarily across local schools and sports grounds.
The role will involve tractor driving and large-area mowing for approximately three days per week, with the remaining two days focused on general grounds maintenance duties. This is an ideal position for someone confident operating tractors and ride-on machinery, who is also happy to support hands-on grounds work.
Due to working within school environments, a professional attitude and strong awareness of safeguarding is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Tractor Driving & Mowing (Primary – approx. 3 days per week):
* Operating tractors and tractor-mounted mowers
* Large-area grass cutting across sports pitches and school grounds
* Daily safety checks and basic maintenance of tractors and machinery
* Ensuring mowing work meets contract and safety standards
Grounds Maintenance (Secondary – approx. 2 days per week):
* Grass cutting using pedestrian and ride-on mowers
* Hedge cutting, pruning, strimming, and shrub maintenance
* Pitch preparation and seasonal works (where required)
* Litter picking and general site clearance
* Supporting the wider grounds team across multiple sites
General Duties:
* Working safely at all times and following health & safety procedures
* Adhering to safeguarding requirements when working in schools
* Maintaining a professional and reliable approach on all sites
Requirements
* Proven experience operating tractors and ride-on mowing equipment
* Grounds maintenance or outdoor work experience
* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
* Professional and responsible attitude when working around children and the public
* Good timekeeping, reliability, and strong work ethic
* Must be able to pass a clear DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check
* Full UK driving licence (essential)
* Experience with strimmers, hedge cutters, or pitch equipment is an advantage
