Job Description:

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a permanent, full time position.

The shift pattern for this position is Monday – Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, registered Clinical Scientist to join the Laboratory Genetics department, which forms part of the West of Scotland Centre for Genomic Medicine. The department provides a high quality genetics service to the West of Scotland, population 2.7 million, and to the whole of Scotland through the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine. Based at the state of the art Laboratory Medicine building at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, the Laboratory Genetics department is responsible for the testing of inherited genetic disease and acquired genetic disease (solid and haematological malignancy).

You will join our team of >110 scientific and technical staff. You will be required to take responsibility for the testing and reporting of a range of germline genetic disorders, working effectively with technical staff when doing so. You will authorise reports and carry out service development. Good communication, team working and supervisory skills are essential.

It is essential that you have a BSc (Hons) in a biological science and must be state registered in an appropriate discipline, with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Consideration may be given to scientists nearing completion of approved training programmes. You should have considerable experience in a genetics diagnostic laboratory with knowledge of germline disorders and with diagnostic techniques.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm, with one shorter day in line with the latest AfC terms and conditions (total 37h per week).

Informal contact: Therese Bradley, Germline Programme Manager, 0141 354 9311, [emailprotected]
