RPS are seeking Trainee Leakage Engineers to join our Water Operations Division in Wales. Roles are currently available in Swansea, Carmarthen and Llanelli. Our team of Leakage Engineers are at the heart of our strategic priorities – to deliver great work for our clients by providing excellent customer service and executing complex operational tasks. This position provides an opportunity for you to progress with RPS, whether you are just starting out or taking the next step in your career.
This is a permanent, full-time position working Monday to Friday 07:00 - 15:30 and offers a starting salary of national minimum wage, plus overtime, bonus and benefits. You will also be allocated a company van.
About The Team
The RPS Asset, Surveying, and Inspection (AS&I) team provides industry leading services to the UK Water Industry. The team supports Water Networks, Drainage, Surveying, Leakage Consultancy, Water Resources and Efficiency. They analyse complex data and provide pragmatic solutions, including reducing water leakage and preventing flooding and pollution in local communities.
Our team assess, diagnose, and determine the most appropriate solution to reduce leakage and fully support the delivery of regulatory targets, working to pinpoint leakage with a level of accuracy that delivers a great service for clients.
About You
As a key member of the Asset, Surveying, and Inspection (AS&I) business, your role as Trainee Leakage Technician is critical to our strategic priorities – to deliver great work for our clients by providing excellent customer service and executing complex operational tasks. Whether you are just starting out or taking the next step in your career, this position provides an opportunity for you to progress with RPS.
You will need to work flexibly, including weekends, evenings and overtime if required. Be willing to travel to different locations. It is essential that you enjoy working outdoors, as come rain or shine, you will mostly be outside.
Your Responsibilities
This is a great first step into a career in the water industry and full training and one-to-one mentorship will be provided. Reporting to the Team Leader, you will ensure the delivery of leakage reduction by using your expertise to resolve complex operational issues that will include detecting both proactive and reactive leaks on our clients’ network using a combination of methods.
* Assess, diagnose, and determine the most appropriate solution to reduce leakage and fully support the delivery of regulatory targets and work to pinpoint leakage with a level of accuracy that delivers a great service for clients
* Ensure Health and Safety is maintained
* Achieve KPI targets and deliver leakage detection/reduction within DMAs
* Attend excavations requested by R&M to assist leak location
* Train and mentor assistant leakage Technicians
* Assume responsibility for general admin tasks, e.g., electronic timesheets submissions, weekly vehicle checks and defect reporting
* Form and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and the client
Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
* Any prior experience in a similar role is useful; we will train you in water network hydraulics, leakage detection techniques, monitoring/reporting of leakage levels and other issues in the clean water industry
* Willingness to learn utility tracing, noise logging and step-testing planning/operation to build experience in leakage monitoring, pressure/flow and data capture techniques
* Able to work well under pressure and to conflicting deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and high standards
* Team player with a flexible, cooperative attitude; good collaboration and knowledge sharing
* Great written and verbal communication skills
* Customer focused and able to build and maintain relationships
* Able to report findings quickly and accurately
Qualifications
* Full UK driving licence
Health And Safety
* Moving heavy items including inspection chamber covers
* Working in all weather conditions (may include night work)
* May be required to work in confined spaces and on highways
* Mandatory drugs and alcohol tests are undertaken for this role and a DBS check will be undertaken
