About the Service
Antelope House is a modern acute mental health inpatient and psychiatric intensive care unit. It offers high quality, recovery focused care to adults with a range of mental health needs, across inpatient and crisis services.
Responsibilities
* Support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients across all sectors of the service, performing assessment, formulation and interventions under the supervision of a senior psychologist.
* Provide weekly clinical supervision and support in screening and prioritisation of referrals.
* Deliver group programmes that integrate theory and skills from a range of modalities and approaches.
* Support the music therapist in the delivery of their group programme.
* Act as a key link between the psychology team and an inpatient ward, maintaining visibility and presence to engage patients with psychological work.
* Assist with clinically related administration, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology.
* Entitlement to Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) from the British Psychological Society.
* Work experience with adults with severe and enduring mental health problems.
* Experience of paid work in direct care provision.
* High level communication skills (written and verbal) to communicate in emotionally charged settings.
* Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues.
* High standard of report writing.
* Understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities.
* Ability to apply psychological knowledge in a healthcare context and interact effectively with multidisciplinary staff.
* Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with regular management of workload.
* Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately.
Desirable
* Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice or research design and analysis.
* Previous experience working as an Assistant Psychologist under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.
* Experience of clinical audit and or service-based research.
* Experience and/or training in diversity awareness and social inequality.
* Broad knowledge and understanding of working within the CCC framework.
* Experience using computers for databases or data‑analysis, especially SPSS.
* Interest in working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems or other disabilities.
* Desire to explore a career in Professional Psychology.
Additional Criteria
* High level communication skills, including the ability to manage emotional or hostile situations.
* Ability to interact with people with mental health problems and their carers.
* Strong report writing and organisational skills.
* Understanding of psychology applied to health care.
Benefits and Working Conditions
Pay scheme: Agenda for Change. Band 5. Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 per year (full‑time).
