Overview
Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine
We are expanding our acute medical workforce within a purpose-built Acute Medical Unit, adjacent to the Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit and Emergency Department, with proximity to the Surgical Assessment Unit and ITU areas. We are recruiting two proactive, forward-thinking individuals to join our expanding team to establish a consultant model of 14 substantive consultants.
The role involves working with a multi-disciplinary team across key service areas and flexibly within the acute medical bed base: AMU, AFU (alongside the frailty team), SDEC and ED. The applicant should hold a CCT or be working towards it within 6 months.
Responsibilities
The main duties of this post include:
* Assessment, early decision-making and close co-ordination of clinical care for patients in the acute medicine bed base.
* Provision of leadership to the acute medical take.
* Work within the acute medical bed base: AMU, AFU, SDEC and ED as required.
* Rotation with other acute physicians in terms of DCC and SPA activity as described in the job plan.
Requirements
Qualifications
* Essential: Primary Medical Qualification MBChB or equivalent
* Essential: CCT in General Internal Medicine or Geriatric Medicine by the time of taking up appointment or able to complete The Portfolio Pathway within 24 months
* Desirable: MD or PhD
* Desirable: CCT in both Geriatric and General Medicine
Training
* Essential: 4-5 years training at registrar level in GIM/Acute Medicine
Experience
* Essential: Daily independent ward rounds on acutely ill patients
* Essential: Ability to make decisions at consultant level and take full and independent responsibility for patient care
* Essential: Comprehensive patient management
Teaching
* Essential: Previous experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
