Purpose of the role
To move sides of beef around from the abattoir to chillers and then to the boning hall. You will be required to scribe and split sides of beef into quarters, re‑hang hind quarters, and move them into the main production areas.
As a Boning Hall Operative at our Bodmin site, you will play a crucial role in our food production process, ensuring the efficient packing of meat products while adhering to strict quality and safety standards. This is a physically demanding role that requires attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment. The position suits those with ambition and a drive to progress within the company.
Main Responsibilities
* Scribe and split beef into quarters and re‑hang hind quarters as directed by the supervisor, to customer specification.
* Be able to lift weights and move around the factory floor without assistance for the shift duration.
* Be familiar with the daily production plan and work as part of the team to set up the line, complete checks and ensure materials are ready.
* Perform all pre‑start up, hygiene and safety checks as directed.
* Report all breakages, damages or defaults of equipment to the line supervisor, ensuring all equipment is only used when it is safe. Record checks as directed.
* Ensure that the product is of the highest standard and report any issues to the line supervisor immediately.
* Report any accidents or near misses, and assist with any investigations as required by the company's safety policy.
* Always adhere to Health and Safety policies and procedures.
* Act in a responsible manner following all safety regulations; practice safe work practices, SOPs and never risk one’s own safety.
* Ensure compliance with PPE policies and procedures.
* Other duties will be part of the role as specified by the direct supervisor.
* Pack meat products in accordance with specific instructions and procedures.
* Monitor the quality of products, identifying and reporting any defects or issues.
* Operate packaging machinery and tools, ensuring proper function and maintenance.
* Report any risks or any evidence of unsafe or out‑of‑specification product, equipment, packaging or raw materials to a designated manager to enable the resolution of issues requiring immediate action.
You will be working Monday to Friday starting at 04:30 am until production finish.
The pay for this role starts at £13.94 and can increase depending on competency‑based assessment.
Requirements
* Previous experience working in a high‑volume meat processing factory highly beneficial but not a necessity.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
* Able to work in a chilled environment.
* Manual handling ability and awareness.
* Physically strong and have stamina to perform repetitive tasks lifting heavy items.
* Fluent in English, communicate well in written and oral form with multi‑nationals at all levels.
* Flexibility to meet daily production targets.
* Consistent approach and strong work ethic.
* Able to work under own initiative and as part of a team.
* Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
