In the role of a Research and Development Chemist at Sherwin-Williams you will be responsible for the formulations of new products and reformulation of existing products.
This position can be based at either in Ambacht, in the Netherlands or in Sheffield, UK.
1. Evaluation and approval of alternative raw materials
2. Progressing of projects through to production scale up.
3. Evaluation of competitive products
4. Provision of support to the QA and Consumer Services Departments
5. Provision of support to R&D’s Stability Studies function
6. Progress new product development projects
7. Undertake reformulation projects and evaluate alternative raw materials to meet:(a) Legislative targets(b) Profit margin improvement(c) Performance improvement
8. Support scale up of laboratory produced formulations through to production
9. Conduct competitive product analysis and reporting
10. Conduct product performance evaluations
11. Conduct general laboratory/equipment maintenance and ordering of consumables
12. Provision of testing support to the QA Department at times of high workload (this may involve occasional shift pattern working)
13. Provision of support to the Consumer Services Department at times of high workload
14. Other duties appropriate to the position under the direction of the R&D Team Leaders and Senior Chemists
15. Support scale up of laboratory produced formulations through to production
16. Conduct competitive product analysis and reporting
17. Conduct product performance evaluations
18. Conduct general laboratory/equipment maintenance and ordering of consumables
19. Provision of testing support to the QA Department at times of high workload (this may involve occasional shift pattern working)

22. Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, polymer/materials science or related technical discipline with 3 years industry experience
23. Master’s Degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, polymer/materials science or related technical discipline
24. Six Sigma knowledge
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
25. Previous laboratory experience essential
26. Competent IT skills
27. Effective written & verbal communication skills
28. Confidence in presenting in formal or informal environments - essential
29. Ability to work flexibly and respond positively to changing priorities
30. Ability to work in a team environment and on own initiative
31. Ability to work successfully in a matrixed organization
32. Paints/coatings formulation experience
33. Driving license is preferred due to occasional travel
