New Directions Education are recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work in the Nursery class at an Aberystwyth based School. Welsh speaking is essential for this role, but non-Welsh speakers are encouraged to apply as other opportunities are available. This is a long-term placement with the potential for a full-time job for the right candidate.
Although a qualification within the educational field would be beneficial, it is not essential. If you have experience working with children or transferrable skills from previous jobs, we would love to hear from you.
We are ideally looking for those with full-time availability, however, part-time & job shares are possible.
Job Specification

We are looking for reliable and responsible individuals, who are passionate about working with children to help them strive and make their school experience a fun and safe environment by giving them the tools to reach their full potential.
Your responsibilities will be to support the teacher in delivering lessons and activities in a safe and engaging manner, assisting in the preparation of lessons plans and learning resources and encouraging positive behaviour and supporting the teacher with classroom management.
Ideally, we ask for 3 months minimum experience working with children or have a child-based qualification. We do consider candidates who have transferable skills, this means having experience working in social care, coaching, or nursing.
Teaching, Learning or Classroom Assistants are now vital resources for teachers and are heavily relied upon in schools. We specialise in recruiting Teaching Assistants (TA) who are qualified in the following.
1. NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant
2. NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant
3. Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
4. CACHE Level 3 in Childcare & Education
5. BTEC National Certificate in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing).
We’ll also consider experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who have previously held a job in a primary school or assisted a pupil in the role in a secondary school but do not hold any of the above qualifications.
As a Welsh Speaking Learning Support Assistant, you’ll be expected to:
6. Have a good understanding of the Welsh Language
7. Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
8. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
9. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
10. Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
11. Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
