Job Description
You’ll sit at the heart of our work to transform our planning and regulation of the water industry to improve the water environment.

We’re looking for an innovative person to support the Environment Agency’s drive to reduce pollution from the water industry through annual Pollution Incident Reduction Plans (PIRPs) and linking into longer-term planning frameworks. Your coordinated management of this work will achieve strategically important benefits for the environment and the Agency.
Responsibilities
1. Develop legislation and statutory guidance with Defra, liaising with internal teams on connected work areas.
2. Liaise with water companies and stakeholders to develop and produce statutory guidance.
3. Build relationships, particularly with national and operational colleagues in related work areas.
4. Support the consultation process for new statutory guidance.
5. Provide regular governance updates and produce internal guidance and training.
You will work with senior managers, legal services, operations, communications, finance, and business planning. You should be able to work independently while maintaining effective communication with your team and stakeholders.

The Team
You’ll be part of the Water Quality Assets Team in Operation Catchment Services within our Environment and Business directorate, focusing on working with Defra, water companies, and other stakeholders on new guidance and coordinating public consultations. Our team is dispersed and collaborates with various technical and project teams nationwide, offering flexible location options with some travel and overnight stays possible.
Experience and Skills Required
1. Good knowledge and experience of water quality, environmental legislation, wastewater discharge regulation, and Pollution Incident Reduction Plans.
2. Experience in partnership building and maintaining relationships, acting as a key interface with customers.
3. Ability to effectively articulate business needs, with an understanding of business concepts applied to the Water Industry sector.
4. Self-motivated, outcome-oriented, with a collaborative approach to working with stakeholders and partners.
5. Problem-solving skills and ability to raise emerging threats/issues.
6. Experience working with Defra and/or other government departments is advantageous.
Additional Information
You will have an incident management development plan, with support and training provided. The role is flexible regarding location, with some travel and overnight stays required.
