Devon Partnership NHS Trust invites applications for a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry to join the Exeter West Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and the Place of Safety (Wonford House Hospital). The position supports patients aged 18‑65 and may be full‑time, part‑time, or job‑share.

Key Responsibilities
* Conduct 12‑15 medical assessments per week for a caseload of approximately 300 patients.
* Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients managed by the Exeter West CMHT.
* Act as Responsible Clinician cover for the Place of Safety, including initial assessment, treatment planning, and Mental Health Act responsibilities (e.g., section 17 leave arrangements).
* Support detained patients under section 2 or 3 awaiting transfer to other inpatient units (average stay 2‑3 days).
* Participate in on‑call rota and cross‑cover for leave with other consultants.
* Lead multidisciplinary team activities, ensuring efficient and patient‑centred care flow through the Trust.
* Engage in research, teaching, and service development as part of professional development.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
* Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up the post.
* Eligibility for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at interview time.
* Approval under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
* Experience working in a Community Mental Health Team.
* Experience in psychiatric practice across settings, especially community settings.
* Audit experience and understanding of clinical governance.
* Experience teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Ability to interpret published research and apply research findings to clinical practice.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
* MRCPsych.
* Other professional qualification (e.g., CBT, PSI, CAT).
* CCT in General Psychiatry.
* Evidence of new ideas in service delivery.
* Track record of implementing service initiatives.
* Track record of team leadership or collaboration with other agencies.
* Management training or experience.
* Experience in clinical supervision.
* Proven commitment to improving quality of clinical care.
* Aptitude for and practical experience of research.
