Android Developer – Guardian News & Media
The Guardian is one of the world’s biggest liberal news organisations. We are looking for an Android Developer/Engineer to join our Apps team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract or internal secondment.
About The Role
You’ll build and test major new features, improve and maintain existing functionality across The Guardian’s Android apps. The codebase is 90%+ Kotlin with some Java. Collaboration is essential – pair programming with other developers and close work with iOS, server‑side, and web engineers, designers, product managers, editorial and commercial colleagues. You will contribute to product and technical decisions and review code to maintain high standards. Innovation and participation in hack days are expected.
About You
* Demonstrated experience building and deploying Android applications
* Strong interest in growing your skills and becoming an Android expert
* Confident coding in Kotlin and Android Studio
* Experience with Java or willingness to learn
* Ability to make considered technology choices
* Drive for code quality and best practices
* Comfortable working in Agile development environments
Working Environment
Hybrid model – office attendance at least 1 day per week. Salary for new Apps Developers is £62,000 per year. Transparent remuneration. Flexible working arrangements considered.
